About this Event
Join us for an evening rich with strange and wonderful sounds, featuring three bands representing experimental, jazz, and noise traditions.
Brandon Woo Snyder presents a hot, alchemical blend of noise music with composer-Haegeum performer Jeonghyeon Joo, and composer-performer Xuanqi Liu. A trio of Haegeum and two self-programmed laptop-instruments, these three musicians bring together their contrasting instrumental practices to form an arresting, strange beauty through sound and performance.
The music of Ian Power, composer-performer, is insistent, suspenseful, warm, and performer-driven. It has been performed by himself and by ensembles around the world, including the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Wet Ink, and Music for Your Inbox LA, who made a film out of his work “IT ALLOWED THEM TO PRODUCE A SINGLE SOUND”. Based in Orange County, he is associate Professor of Arts at University of Baltimore and board member of the Dog Star Orchestra in LA.
Daniel Richardson, Nolan Miranda, Spencer Pepke, Brian Shank are a jazz quartet bringing a modern sound with reverence for tradition. Brought together through their graduate studies at UC Irvine, they focus on original music and reinterpretations of classic tunes within the jazz tradition.
