About this Event
Belfast City Cemetery is the final resting place of many notable footballers of yesteryear. Amongst them is the legendary Elisha Scott (pictured), and Jack Peden who captained Newtown Heath who later became Manchester United.
However many other interesting footballers also rest there, including Sam Johnston who scored Ireland's first international goal, and Jack Hamilton a goalkeeper who conceded 20 goals in his two appearances as Ireland goalkeeper! A number of the team from Ireland's first international match in 1882 also rest in the Cemetery, as well as two Irish international players born in Scotland, and a few Scottish internationals.
At 2pm on Sunday 22nd September, football buffs Alistair Firth and Peter McCabe will lead a 90-minute walking tour calling at 20 graves in the City Section of Belfast City Cemetery. Tickets cost £12 per person, with places limited
