About this Event

Join Us for the City of Fontana Fall 2026 CERT Class!


Are you ready to help your community? The City of Fontana invites you to join our Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training in September 2026. This fun and informative course will teach you important skills to help your family, friends, and neighbors during emergencies and disasters.
Dates and Times

This is a 24-hour course spread out over three weeks. The course will last from September 9, 2026 - September 26, 2026.

We will meet on Monday and Wednesday evenings September 9, 14, 16, 21, 23 from 6 PM to 9 PM and one Saturday, September 26 from 8 AM to 5 PM .

You must complete each day to get a certificate.

September 2025 CERT Basic course scedule:

Evening sessions 6 PM - 9 PM will be held at the Jesse Turner Center Ballroom, 15556 Summit Avenue, Fontana, CA 92335.

  • Wednesday, 9/16/26

Week 3

  • Monday, 9/21/26
  • Wednesday, 9/23/26

Weekend session 8 AM - 5 PM will be held at the Fontana Police Department, 17005 Upland Avenue, Fontana, CA 92335.

  • Saturday, 9/26/26 - Final exam & graduation!

Please see the tentative agenda below. The units will be taught slightly out of order to accomodate for time and supplies. If you need to make up a class, please reach out to [email protected] to confirm the day your needed unit will be held.


Special Perks:

As a participant, you'll receive a CERT vest, backpack, and personal protective equipment (PPE). By the end of the course, you’ll have a new set of valuable skills and may even get the chance to join the City CERT Volunteer Team!

Info: Introduction to disasters, the impact of disasters on infrastructure, mitigation strategies, and the role of CERTs.

Info: The incident command system, CERT leadership roles, and disaster response planning.

Unit 3: Disaster Medical Operations: Part 1

Info: Treating life-threatening conditions and basic first-aid care: bleeding, burns, fractures, heat injuries.

Unit 4: Disaster Medical Operations

Info: Mass casualty incidents, triage, medical treatment areas, and head-to-toe assessments.

Unit 6: Fire Safety & Utility Controls

Info: Identifying and reducing potential fire hazards, basic fire suppression strategies, fire extinguisher use, and controlling utilities.

Unit 5: Disaster Psychology & Unit 8: CERT & Terrorism

Info: Psychological effects of a disaster on rescuers and victims, and how to provide psychological first aid. Understanding the different types of terrorism, identifying potential targets, and CERT's role in responding to terrorist incidents.

Unit 7: Light Search & Rescue Operations

Info: Search techniques, rescuing victims safely, and using simple tools to move debris.
