About this Event
Join us for a free* two-day class that will prepare you to pass the FCC Amateur Radio Technician exam and begin operating on the amateur radio bands. Amateur radio provides a reliable way to communicate when other systems fail and is widely used by emergency responders and community volunteers during disasters.
The class will be taught by experienced instructor Rick Danzey, KK6AIZ, and will cover the material needed to pass the FCC Technician license exam.
We will cover beginner material using Gordon West’s Technician Class FCC Element 2 Amateur Radio License Preparation book, 10th Edition 2022 to 2026.
*The class is free to attend. A $10 exam fee is typically collected by the volunteer examiners at the time of testing. After passing the exam, the FCC requires a $35 licensing fee (paid directly to the FCC).
No radio or prior experience is required.
Amateur radio (ham) uses personal radios to connect people locally and across long distances. It keeps working during outages, which makes it useful for emergencies and community readiness.
