The Antietam Institute is offering a series of monthly members-only battlefield excursions called “Following in the Footsteps.” These two-hour programs on Saturday mornings over the course of several months will be led by Antietam Institute historians and will cover the actions of a specific regiment or battery on the battlefield.
During each month’s excursion, you’ll follow in the footsteps of a specific unit, learning where it was raised, its service before Antietam, and who commanded it. The excursion leader will stop at critical locations around the battlefield to explain what the unit and its soldiers experienced on September 17, 1862.
"They Answered the Call: the 130th Pennsylvania"
Using their own words from letters and diaries, Institute historian Jason Campbell will follow in the footsteps of the 130th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on August 1.

This two-hour hike covers approximately 1 ½ miles, across moderate terrain and park roads. All excursions will run from 9:30 to 11:30 am and start at the Visitor Center overflow parking area. The "Following in the Footsteps" hikes are for current members only, and advance registration is required (login before registering), but there is no fee to attend. Members are required to purchase the park entrance pass at the Visitor Center. To register, go to: https://antietaminstitute.org/seasonal-events/
