Get ready for an extraordinary evening of deep rhythms and ancestral sounds as The Astoria hosts a groundbreaking Folktronica showcase on August 7th.
Making his highly anticipated Vancouver debut, Chilean composer and producer Rodrigo Gallardo brings his world-renowned organic electronic movement to the city. A founding member of the legendary band Matanza, Gallardo seamlessly weaves Andean roots, charangos, and woodwinds with modern samples and deep electronic bass lines. Fresh off his 2026 live album and his latest single El vuelo de una mariposa, Gallardo’s live set is a global phenomenon that has captivated crowds from Germany’s Fusion Festival to France’s Cercle.
Opening the night is ASKO, an immersive, electronic-forward project led by nêhiyaw (Cree) and Scottish/Irish beat-worker Marek Tyler (formerly of the Juno-nominated band nêhiyawak). Rooted in the Cree foundational principle of askôtowin—weaving our existence into creation—ASKO is a rich gathering of Indigenous creative practice across generations. Driven by percussion, the project blends the kinetics of pow-wow dancers and the heartbeat of the big drum with the sounds of wind, wings, and electronic soundscapes.
