About this Event

Welcome!

Join Folktales for New Scots by Beetroots Collective – a series of free, friendly workshops bringing people together through art and storytelling.

Folktales for New Scots is about community and cultural exchange through local folktales and crafting. A creative meeting place for people from different cultural backgrounds – bringing together New Scots and more long-established Scottish residents. Whether you’d like to get lost in quiet print-making alongside others, or chat away with new people and share your culture, this is a space for meeting other locals and being creative together.

Who is it for?

Open to all community members aged 18+

We welcome New Scots - people with migration and asylum experience – and also ‘born and bred’ locals and long-established residents.

What to expect:

• Traditional Scottish folktales with storyteller Stephen McCabe

• A guided linocut art workshop with Marta Adamowicz (Beetroots Collective: https://beetroots.org)

• A relaxed, welcoming space to create and connect

• All materials included, no experience needed.

Accessibility:

The workshop takes place in the Sports Hall at the Pyramid at Anderston. The Sports Hall is a level-access (no steps) ground floor space, with a wheelchair accessible toilet.

About the workshops:

This is a series of six sessions, designed to build on each other:

• Four sessions feature storytelling – each with different stories

• Two storytellers lead across the programme

Can I attend more than one session?

Yes! You’re welcome to attend one session or many.

Artwork will build from week to week, resulting in a film shown at an outdoor street celebration in March 2027.

The project is funded by Creative Scotland National Lottery Fund.
