Hosts PAPER SPARROWS wrap up another busy year with sold out shows across the UK and wrap up 2025 with their annual festive show. The band have graced prestigious stages like the Cambridge Folk Festival, Folk East, and Glasgow Americana, and of course Edinburgh very own Fringe. The roots folk/Americana trio come "highly recommended" from Celtic Connections, and are described as "folk legends" by the Assembly Festival! RnR Magazine said “The epithet ‘debut album’ belies the depth of skill and experience hidden behind the members of the band". The band's sound centres on their distinctive twin-acoustic guitar style, finger-picking, harmonies and double bass. Arrangements draw upon 60s folk-revivalists such as Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Dylan and Donovan up to contemporary acts like Dave Rawlings, Kris Drever and the Milk Carton Kids.
MICHAEL MCGOVERN is a well-travelled musician, not long back from another tour of Canada and sold out shows in Ireland. His deeply poetic songwriting and evolving folk music, celebrates a rich new chapter in his sound. His work has been praised by folk legends and broadcasters alike, is known for his signature style: intricate fingerpicked nylon-string guitar work, expansive vocal harmonies, and a lyricism that draws on literary giants from Leonard Cohen to T.S. Eliot. While his acclaimed debut album embraced the intimate folk ballad, his latest project, Thin White Road, takes a confident step forward, expanding his roots with full-band arrangements and touches of saxophone and strings. It's a sound that is both deeply emotional and richly arranged, cementing his place as one of the most compelling new voices in contemporary folk.
Originally form Northamptonshire, now Edinburgh-based, singer-songwriter ERIN O’CALLAGHAN'S stunning vocals and have taken her across the country to venues such as, Dragonfly Live Lounge, The Lemon Tree and Sneaky Pete's as well as spots with Sofar Sounds. Grounded by her father’s Irish routes, she grew up loving folk music for its storytelling and began to develop her own style in her early teens. Influences like Kodaline and Phoebe Bridgers have seeped into her melancholic and introspective style of writing, creating songs that feel like warm diary entries.
Folksville favourites BIG LIGHTNIN' need no introduction, but as you’re here… Last time they played with us, they’d just returned from Touring Mexico. This time they join us after a long tour on the other side of the world in Australia and New Zealand. "Royal rock 'n' roll couples don't come any more eloquent, suave or beat than this mighty duo." Shindig Magazine. The pair have a musical CV to match the best: The Milkshakes; Sally Skull; The Wildebeests; The Nettelles; and Lord Rochester to name but a few. Russ cuts records, Saskia writes books. They cover all bases.
