Programme:
The Witch of Vihar Lake - Joey Kaushik
16 minutes
CW: domestic abuse, transphobia
Mitthu, a timid young child and their teenage sister Ishita live in a village close to Vihar Lake, where stories of a terrifying witch prevail. Mystery and magic surround the siblings as they grapple with their parents’ ignorance and anger. We follow a bewitched Ishita and Mitthu in their coming-of-age journey as the threat of the witch looms over their lives.
The Elfin Knight - Izzy Cresswell
6:45 minutes
CW: Mild violence/ blood
Written and directed by Izzy Cresswell and James Fennell, this film uses a parallel narrative, a woman in a medieval setting and her modern counterpart - drawing from ancient handmaids' tales and poems to highlight the ever present and persistent dangers faced by women across every era.
The Grove: Reveries of a Ghost Village - Simon Nunn
28 minutes
CW: Flashing imagery at one stage
Exploring the reports of a spectral mansion on the outskirts of Rougham, a village in the Eastern county of Suffolk. The film delves into local folklore surrounding these sightings as villagers recount their haunting experiences against the desolate backdrop of rural Britain. It reflects on themes of memory, place, and the fading tradition of oral storytelling, evoking the eerie atmosphere of a fractured England and our growing disconnect from the natural environment.
Shuck - Emerson New
5:22 minutes
CW: Grief, death
In a purgatory that looks like the Norfolk Broads, dying souls wander through the tall grasses to find their afterlives. Among them is Murph, a woman on her deathbed, and Shuck, the Grim Reaper in the form of a dog.
