***Updated line up due to illness***Folk in the Chapel presents Alastair Gordon & BRUXELLES EXcITE is a sui generis live show that was born from a tour plan:
Alastair Gordon started performing original material on the Berlin open mic scene in his late teens. Since then his voice has been shaped into a rich baritone through years of busking and a creative approach to guitar and harmonica have been shaped by adventurous listening habits. The clearest influences include John Martyn, Charlie Parr and The Felice Brothers. Lyrical content often tackles unconventional subject matter and reflects a life split between South Yorkshire and North Saxony. In his current base of Sheffield, he has supported some of the most exciting artists in modern folk including Fern Maddie, Brown Horse, Jim Ghedi, Alabaster de Plume, Gwenifer Raymond and The Brothers Gillespie.
"Off kilter quirky baritone - that's a very difficult style to pull off. Alastair absolutely nails it." - Christian Carlisle, BBC Sheffield
BRUXELLES EXcITE separate projects came together with tireless camaraderie to build a set merging their respective musical arenas – this five piece act combines American folk, harmony-driven avant-pop, and operatic vocals soaring through accordion refrains and layers of honeyed electric guitars.
They’ve put together a rich madcap number, uncompromising and bright, weaving through and backing each other’s songs, on their way to conquer the hearts of old Blighty.
Musicians include Matt Watts, Cayo van Breugel, Matthieu Ha, Joey Wright, and Alice George Perez.
