Folk Arts Workshop at Chase Home - Turkish Marbling

Ebru is the traditional practice of floating natural pigments on specially prepared water to create mesmerizing designs. This workshop offers a hands-on exploration into an ancient, fluid medium where color and water interact to form striking visual textures. Artist Elvan Yilmaz will introduce fundamental materials and techniques as you float, swirl, and lift your own custom designs instantly onto paper.
Dating back to the Ottoman Empire, where it commonly adorned the spines of books, ebru is deeply rooted in cultural history. This art form serves as a relaxing, meditative practice that celebrates patience, creativity, and the beauty of the unexpected. Because no two drops of paint interact the same way, every single print is entirely distinct. Perfectly suitable for beginners, this workshop offers an immersive and therapeutic cultural experience. Participants will leave with their own piece of uniquely marbled artwork to take home.
This event is suitable for ages 8 and up and will be limited to 12 participants. Children must be accompanied by an adult registrant.
