The Bottle Works presents Folk Art Fridays at the Cambria County Library!
Through our partnership with the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts as the Folk and Traditional Arts Partner for Region 12, the Bottle Works Ethnic Arts Center is bringing a series of 15 Folk Art workshops, lectures, and performances to our community partners at the Cambria County Library!
We are kicking off this free series on Friday June 21, 2024 with a performance/demonstration by the Kulani West African Drum and Dance group!
Kulani Kids was created in 2014 by Gwendolyn Msolomba and Holly Lees after they took a trip to Guinea West Africa. The group was created to teach children and children at heart West African dance. Our mission is to spread love and joy and to create community. The group is respectful of the culture and meaning behind all the dances they perform. As the group learns a dance they also learn the meaning behind the dances and the respect that needs to be given to the dances.
Kulani Kids has dancers and drummers that range from ages 2-16. All the dancers have a passion for dancing and have an understanding that they are not professionals. They know that the goal of every performance is to spread love and joy and to create community. The dancers also understand that it is important that they are having fun and smiling because dancing is about self-expression and having fun.
Kulani Kids has danced at a variety of places and programs. We practice every Tuesday from 530-615p at the Bottleworks. All classes are taught by Gwendolyn Msolomba.
