About this Event

As part of the development of the suicide prevention strand of a new Creating a Mentally Healthy City Strategy, we want to listen to and amplify the voices of our citizens with lived experience.

This event is an in-person focus group for adults with experience of suicidal thoughts or self-harm. During the session, we'll be exploring what participants' experiences were like, what barriers to accessing support might be, and how we can improve support for people experiencing suicidal thoughts or self-harm in the future.
We know these topics bring with them some complex and often distressing feelings, so your wellbeing is our top priority. Before the session, you'll have a 1:1 call with our public health team to chat about the event, discuss whether you feel you're in the right place to attend, and explore any needs you might have before, during or after the session to feel supported. During the event, we will also have trained Samaritans volunteers there who will be dedicated to supporting your wellbeing, and we'll be sure to check in with you after the event too. We'll also give you a list of other resources to take away with you from the focus group in case there are any you'd find helpful. All participants will also be given a voucher to say thank you and cover any travel and expenses after the focus group.
