A free facilitated workshop in South Kensington's leafy cultural centre offering space to pause, observe and create stories from photos.
About this Event

In today's world we are encouraged to be fast, efficient and 'productive'.

We take hasty snapshots and selfies with our phones, aiming to catch ‘the moment’.

Working in high intensity healthcare environments and striving to respond to seemingly relentless demands, time and space for reflection are often absent.

The aim of this three hour workshop is to provide a calm, supportive space with no pressure to share - just an opportunity to reset, reflect, and see things differently. Led by experienced facilitators, you will be invited you to pause, to observe, and to express what you notice through photography and creative writing—helping you reconnect with both your surroundings and your inner self. An opportunity to deepen your perception, to expand your horizons, and to see your working life through a new lens.

Through a series of guided exercises, you’ll be invited to take time to explore your surroundings with curiosity and full attention. You will be given simple prompts to guide you. After your mindful walk in the V&A museum or the Natural History Museum's garden (depending on weather and inclination), you will have the opportunity to free your imagination and participate in a creative exercise, responding to what you notice using short, accessible writing activities.

Designed specifically for those working in demanding care environments, the session offers practical tools you can take away and use in your day-to-day life to support clarity, resilience, and connection to your work.

It also offers an enjoyable and fulfilling experience!

No expertise or prior experience required! All that is needed is a camera or a smart phone and a willingness to engage. All other materials, including printing, will be provided.

...A photograph, while recording what has been seen, always and by its nature refers to what is not seen. It isolates, preserves, and presents a moment taken from a continuum. The only decision (the still photographer) can take is as regards the moment he chooses to isolate. Yet this apparent limitation gives the photograph its unique power.

John Berger. Understanding a photograph.
