Introducing your talented and inspiring speakers and what they are presenting:
Tina Weltz MPA
Royal Ontario Museum
Lions, Tigers and Bears….. well it’s more like
Dinosaurs, Mummy’s and Bugs! With more than 12 million objects and specimens in the ROM’s collections, ~only 1% is showcased in their galleries.
In 2017 the ROM undertook a 3-year project to digitize the many treasures from collection storage.
The scale and diversity of the ROM's collection presented unique digitization challenges. The team addressed these challenges by establishing workflow standards, metrics for tracking progress and enhancing access to the ROM collection. Bringing the collection online, the ROM can now provide greater access to the public and scholars around the world.
Over 3 years the team photographed 15,000 objects and created 45,000 images which is a milestone in the museum's history of digitization projects. Tina will talk about the challenges of some of the objects and the shooting situations.
