Room: Meidinger-SaalIn 1995, Toy Story didn’t just tell a new kind of story. It changed how stories could be made. Now 30 years later, Pixar is entering another one of those moments with RenderMan XPU, and this talk will feature a special preview of the first 72 seconds of Toy Story 5, rendered with XPU.
Pixar’s new hybrid CPU + GPU renderer, RenderMan XPU, brings final-frame rendering into interactive workflows for production. It’s faster, but the more interesting shift is what that speed allows artists to do, from physically based rendering to painterly, stylized looks.
It will also highlight work from the RenderMan Challenge, where artists from around the world are exploring the same tools and arriving at completely different results.
Rather than a feature tour, this is a look at how RenderMan has evolved through the years and how faster feedback changes creative decision-making. When iteration is immediate, artists try more, push further, and discover things they wouldn’t have planned.
A limited number of 100 walking teapots will be available for early attendees.
