FMOPA Centro Member Night | Cigars! Photography, Industry, and Identity
About this Event
Join the Centro Asturiano of Tampa for a special members-only evening at the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts as we experience Cigars! Photography, Industry, and Identity, a powerful exhibition celebrating Ybor City’s cigar heritage and the people who built its legacy.
Presented in collaboration with The Burns Collection & Archive, contemporary photographer Zack Wittman, and the J.C. Newman Cigar Company, the exhibition commemorates Ybor City’s 140th anniversary through a rare visual journey spanning generations. Historic photographs transport visitors back to the city’s rise as the cigar capital of the world, while contemporary works capture the buildings, traditions, and individuals carrying that story forward today.
As an organization deeply tied to Ybor City’s immigrant roots and cigar-making history, this exhibition offers a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the industries, cultures, and communities that helped shape both the Centro and our city.
Members will enjoy a curated gallery experience alongside fellow members as we celebrate Ybor’s past, present, and future together.
Exhibition highlights include:
• Original vintage photographs from The Burns Collection & Archive
• Contemporary works by Zack Wittman documenting Ybor’s remaining cigar factories
• Stories of the immigrant communities that shaped Ybor City
• Recognition of Ybor City’s 140th anniversary and cigar-making legacy
• A special members experience with the Centro community
From factory floors to family stories, Cigars! captures the people, pride, and perseverance that continue to define Ybor City.
