This special concert showcases the exquisite combination of flute, cello, and piano—a less common yet wonderfully expressive ensemble. At its heart is Felix Mendelssohn’s beloved Piano Trio in D minor, Op. 49, presented in a rarely performed arrangement for flute. This version, believed to have been authorized by Mendelssohn himself, transforms the violin’s voice into the lyrical tones of the flute, offering a fresh perspective on this Romantic masterpiece.
Paired with Mendelssohn’s trio is Bohuslav Martinů’s dazzling Trio for Flute, Cello, and Piano, a vibrant work that weaves folk-inspired rhythms with intricate harmonies and dynamic interplay among the instruments. Together, these pieces create a program that highlights the remarkable versatility and emotional depth of this intimate chamber music setting.
