Flung's Seattle debut + mbira music from longtime mentor Sheree Seretse and friends! As Flung, Seattle-raised and Oakland-based multi-instrumentalist Kashika Kollaikal creates channels for feeling. On her third full-length release, All Heartbeat (2024), Flung's immersive world of experimental pop explores intimate sentiments like love, place, and transness. Studded with found sounds - car horns, hand-punched music boxes, foil buzzing on piano strings - Flung's music encourages a deeper way of listening to all that is around, and within.
Flung's music has received acclaim from outlets like Pitchfork, Exclaim Magazine, KEXP, and Recommended Listen, and she has performed in the Bay Area and nationally, sharing stages with L'Rain, Palm, Loraine James, KAINA, and Water From Your Eyes.
The night will begin with a convening of traditional and contemporary Mbira music from Zimbabwe with Sheree Seretse, Ethnomusicologist.
