Fluid Mechanics

Artists have long been fascinated by the flowing movement of liquids, which can evoke resilience, healing, and life. However, fluidity can also convey the possibility of change, loss of control, or even destruction. Bringing together works of print, painting, sculpture, and photography, Fluid Mechanics explores a range of meanings associated with fluidity and its material and conceptual uses in contemporary art.
Fluid Mechanics features work by local Madison artists as well as selected works from Tandem Press’s inventory, each using or expressing fluidity in different ways. Created in a variety of processes and techniques, including printmaking, sculpture, photography, and painting, these works demonstrate the wide range of ideas and emotions that fluidity can express. This exhibition includes works by Baran Ataei, Suzanne Caporael, Emma Harris, Dani Hughes, Marie Lorenz, Cameron Martin, Judy Pfaff, Jane Rosen, Alison Saar, and Christian Ulloa. Guest curated by Alexandra Riesco.
On view: May 8–August 28, 2026
Reception: Friday, May 8, 5–9 pm
Summer Gallery Hours: Tuesday-Thursday 10am-4pm, Friday 10am-3pm
