FLOWERS & FRAMES: Flower Arrangement & Video Walk @ Saint Flora

Workshop summary

A brief talk will introduce participants to the creative inspiration behind combining floral artistry with video installation concepts.

Participants will then create personal floral arrangements under the guidance of Tosha Stimage at her new storefront in downtown San Francisco (209 Jackson Street).

After the floral session, participants will embark on a “golden hour” video/photo walk around downtown SF, capturing cinematic images with their arrangements. Participants can film with their phones or bring their own camera.

Guided by Oakland-based multidisciplinary visual artist and florist Tosha Stimage, and an independent filmmaker, editor, and experimental music composer Daniel Freeman.

Tosha Stimage is an Oakland-based multidisciplinary visual artist and florist. Her practice explores the diversity of materials we use to create language and connection. She is the recipient of numerous awards including; The Murphy Cadogan Contemporary Art Award, The Toby Devan Lewis Award, Svane Family Foundation grant, Facebook Artist in Residence, AICAD Teaching Fellowship, Real Time and Space Artist in Residence, and YBCA Political Power Fellow. Her current endeavor, SAINTFLORA, is a brick and mortar flower shop with offerings aimed at elevating individual and collective care.

Daniel Freeman is an independent filmmaker, editor, and experimental music composer known for blending fiction and documentary elements. His work often follows scrappy, determined characters seeking meaning through art and human connection. His films, including Teddy, Out of Tune, Abstract Tendencies, and If You Hum at the Right Frequency, have been featured in several festivals around the country. Daniel returns to BAVC Media after leading the DIY Art Films workshop in 2023.
