About this Event
Reconnect with your body, your breath, and your spirit in our West African Dance and Yoga class, where movement becomes a form of meditation. We begin with a purposeful yoga warm-up, designed to center your mind, awaken your body, and prepare you for the dynamic movements of West African dance. Guided by live drumming, this opening flow integrates breathwork, mindfulness, and intention-setting to ground and energize you for the journey ahead.
From there, we move into learning traditional West African dance steps that celebrate culture, joy, and self-expression. Feel the rhythm of the live drums as they guide and inspire each movement, transforming the dance into a powerful, moving meditation. To complete the experience, we close with a deeply restorative yoga nidra session, accompanied by soothing drumming, allowing your body to relax fully and your mind to find stillness.
Breath is at the heart of every moment, helping you release stress, embrace the present, and move with intention.

The DAY Program
What to Expect:
In this unique West African Dance and Yoga class, you'll experience the powerful fusion of breath, movement, and mindfulness:
- Mindful Yoga Warm-Up: We begin with a calming yet energizing yoga flow, incorporating breathwork techniques to center your body and mind. This prepares you for the dynamic movement ahead.
- West African Dance: Learn traditional West African dance steps, guided by live drumming, to connect with rhythm, culture, and joyful expression.
- Breathwork: Throughout the class, we’ll guide you through intentional breathing exercises, including a double inhale followed by a long exhale—a technique designed to slow your pace, release tension, and bring focus. This is particularly helpful if you need to slow down and reconnect with your breath.
- Yoga Nidra: We finish with a deeply restorative yoga nidra session, a guided meditation practice that promotes relaxation and helps restore balance to your body and mind. Yoga nidra is especially beneficial after the physical movements, offering a deep sense of calm and tranquility.
Benefits of Yoga Nidra:
Yoga nidra helps you access a state of conscious relaxation, which reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, and enhances mental clarity. It’s the perfect way to end a class focused on movement, allowing your body to rest and your mind to quiet.
