Floral Forms in Tonal Structure is a focused, one-day painting workshop that explores the sculptural interplay of light and shadow using full-color floral still life as the subject. Formerly offered as Painting 2: Chiaroscuro, this newly developed module retains its classical foundation while refining its visual logic and pedagogical clarity under The Painter’s Process series.
Drawing from the principles of Quadraturismo, participants begin with a tinta locale (base local color) and progressively construct form by introducing black for shadows and white for highlights. Unlike monochromatic chiaroscuro, this method retains a full chromatic palette—challenging students to manage value structure, temperature shifts, and atmospheric nuance in color.
A central component of the workshop is the practice of simplifying color choices through a deeper understanding of color temperature, saturation, and value relationships. This approach allows participants to render with clarity and restraint, while maintaining vibrancy and depth.
