Flexibility and the Grid of the Future

Come join the OEA for a keynote address by Marcia Poletti. Marcia is Head of European System Change for Octopus Energy. Octopus Energy has operations in the U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, Japan, New Zealand and the United States. They are the UK’s largest supplier of energy with 14 million customer accounts in 8 million households in 2026.
Marcia will speak about some of the many innovations they have introduced to energy markets in multiple jurisdictions. This will include an overview of Kraken, their proprietary AI-driven operating system that allows them to process billions of real-time data points, dynamic pricing models, and massive customer-led flexibility programs. Among Octopus Energy’s many innovations are; their dynamic customer pricing options (Agile Octopus); their customized EV charging structures (Intelligent Octopus Go); Octopus Flux and for homes with solar and battery storage; their Savings Sessions (Power Down and Power Up) which offer dynamic pricing based on grid conditions; Flex as a Service (FaaS) and Uplight Integration which allows them to seamlessly integrate behavioural change through time-varying rates and automated device controls (smart thermostats, EV chargers, heat pumps) and make them a grid resource.
Given the multiple jurisdictions that Octopus currently operates in, there is much Ontario can learn from their experience in bringing innovation into different regulatory and market structures.
