US NAVY RETIRED VETERAN – AFGHANISTAN - GWOT The family of Mr. Steve Flemming, a US Navy (Ret.) Veteran, requests the presence and participation of the San Antonio Patriot Guard at the graveside rendering of military honors of their loved one. We are honored to accept this invitation.
Steven “Steve” Flemming, 39, passed away on October 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Austin, Texas on July 27, 1986, Steve moved to Katy, Texas at the age of nine, where he grew up and graduated from Cinco Ranch High School in 2004.
Shortly after graduation, Steve began his distinguished career in the United States Navy. Over the course of nearly 19 years of dedicated service, he rose to the rank of Master Chief before his retirement. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (2), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 with Valor Device), Air Force Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and numerous unit citations. His campaigns include the Afghanistan Campaign Medal (with EGA) and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal (with EGA). Steve also proudly earned the Enlisted Fleet Marine Force Warfare Specialist and Command Career Counselor Badge.
While still in Navy training, Steve married the love of his life, Lauren, on September 3, 2006, on the shores of La Jolla Beach, California. Together they shared 19 wonderful years of marriage and raised two beloved daughters, Avery (18) and Harper (13).
After years of honorable service, Steve returned to school, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Fire and Emergency Management from Texas A&M San Antonio, graduating Cum Laude in 2018.
Steve was an adventurer at heart and thrived on challenges. Following his cancer diagnosis, he continued to live life to the fullest climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and competing in both the Warrior Games and the Invictus Games. In his quieter moments, nothing brought him more joy than spending time with Lauren and their daughters, whether traveling together or simply relaxing at home watching movies.
Steve’s magnetic personality left a lasting impression on everyone he met. A natural leader, he was known for his dry, sarcastic humor, his strength, and his deep compassion for others. He cared deeply about the wellbeing of his fellow service members, often checking in and advocating for veterans’ health and awareness. His courage and authenticity made him a powerful voice for the veteran community and a source of inspiration to many.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Lauren Flemming; his daughters, Avery, and Harper Flemming; his parents, Allan, and Lynnette Flemming; and his siblings, David and Christine Flemming. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, MSgt. Billy Ray Flemming and Waltraut Flemming, and his maternal grandparents, Lawrence Stefan Jr. and Marilyn Ruth Stefan.
Steve will be remembered for his unwavering strength, his humor, his leadership, and his endless love for his family. His light and example will continue to inspire all who knew him.
