Delhi Ki Garmee said: “Bas karo Heritage Walks!”

So we said: “Fine. We’ll take it Indoors!!”

*Presenting: MuseoMay 2026*

Our annual, month-long series of cooler, quieter, story-filled weekends inside Delhi’s most epic museums (because 18th May = World Museums Day, obviously we had to go big!)

For our 2nd MuseoMay walk, we charge into the Red Fort 1857 Museum - for a visceral plunge into the blood-soaked fury of India’s First War of Independence.

Sunday, 10th May 2026 exactly 169 years after the Meerut inferno erupted on another Sunday, 10th May 1857, we will help you deconstruct the reasons, less-known intrigues and the blood-drenched tales of when the sepoys' thunderous roar of “Chalo Dilli!”, ignited a storm of rebellion across North India, shattering British illusions of control.

Before "Quit India", "Swadeshi" or the "Non-Cooperation Movement", back in the Summer of 1857, Delhi was ground zero: a fading Mughal capital city, drowned in colonial excesses, gunfire, wanton bloodshed, treachery and the cries of the oppressed - where ordinary Indians rose along with the Sipahis; axes, sticks, arrows, stones and muskets in hand, against the English East India Company's iron fist!

The Red Fort, a scarred fortress still pulsing with the ghosts of that revolution, and its terrible consequences for Indians, is the perfect location to relive the gripping tales from 169 years ago!

The 1857 Red Fort museum exhibits will help you understand the Why, How and When Delhi became a battlefield, a cauldron of chaos...with sepoys clashing with cannons, the common man rallying around the Last Mughal, and whose collective dreams were eventually crushed under British boots, followed by a savage retribution that scarred generations to come in our city!!!

**Walk Highlights**

- Immersive walkthrough of exhibits capturing Delhi's brutal pivot from Mughal Glory (albeit faded glory) to Colonial Chains

- Stand defiant at the Revolt's blazing heart inside the Red Fort

- Uncover stories and material memories of the Sipahis' valour, of stabbed-in-the-back-betrayed Rebels, silenced Poets, and a ragtag people who dared the impossible!

- Reflect on how 1857's tumult forged Delhi's unbreakable spirit & identity amid the ashes of a lost battle.

Dastaan-e-1857: Because the past isn’t over - it is just waiting to be remembered! 169 years thence from that Summer of 1857!
