Instructor bio:
April’s teaching method is based on the curricular model developed by the National Institute of Flamenco.
April began studying flamenco in 2007 with Minneapolis-based dancers Colette Illarde and Susana di Palma. In 2010, she relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico to study at the Conservatory of Flamenco Arts, where she studied under Joaquin and Marisol Encinias, Kayla Lyall and Carlos Menchaca. From 2013-2016, she studied with master teacher Eva Encinias at the University of New Mexico, while also assistant-teaching her beginning and intermediate classes. During this time, April studied with many visiting master flamenco instructors, including Winy Amaya, Jose Maya, Carmen la Talegona, Sonia Olla, Jose Galvan, Alfonso Losa, and Alejandro Granados, among others.
While serving as Education Programs Manager for the National Institute of Flamenco from 2014-2016, April taught Intro to Flamenco for adults, and children's intermediate flamenco.
Since 2017, she has lived in both New Orleans and Washington DC, teaching beginners while working full time as an arts organizer and administrator.
