About this Event
Explore image-making through the simplest of lenses: a tiny hole. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll construct your own working pinhole camera from basic materials and, in the process, explore the optics that make it possible.
No prior experience with photography is required—just curiosity. Together we’ll cover the essentials of pinhole imaging, how to achieve the sharpest image possible. We’ll also introduce the basics of exposure, practical methods for testing and refining your exposure times, and how to use free or inexpensive light meter apps on your phone to guide your experiments.
Participants are encouraged to bring small containers that can be made light-tight—soda cans, cardboard boxes, cookie tins, or anything else that sparks your creativity. The more inventive the better. A selection of materials will also be made available during the workshop.
The session will be led by Wes Pope, a photographer and educator whose decades-long pinhole photography project along historic Route 66 is currently on display at the Coconino Center for the Arts.
Free workshop, limited capacity, registration required.
