“Five Golden Hoops” is a showcase created by World Champion Hoop Dancer Dallas Arcand (Cree & Nakota Sioux Nation) and hosted by local Indigenous Artist and Knowledge Keeper Krystal Withakay (Syilx Nation). In the heart of the holiday season this showcase is intended to bring people together, share laughter and be captivated by the intricate talents of multifaceted Indigenous Artists who reside within the Okanagan Valley.
Winter solstice is a seasonal change that Indigenous Peoples from across Turtle Island (North America) celebrate by sharing historical wisdom in alignment with culturally connected songs, stories, talents, and diverse dance styles. “Five Golden Hoops” showcase is a rare opportunity for public audiences to witness and experience the contemporary talents of Dallas Arcand, Krystal Withakay, combined with diverse special guest performances.
The showcase title “Five Golden Hoops”, is inspired by all aspects and elements of life, symbolizing how earth, air, fire, water and spirit are all interconnected. “Five Golden Hoops” can also be seen as a rendition of the popular Christmas carol lyric “Five Golden Rings”. We invite people of all ages and from all walks of life to join us for a remarkable and transformative evening celebrating Winter Solstice 2024.
