About this Event
In this programme, the FSQ explores English and American composers from the last 100 years. Alongside Barber's quartet containing his famous Adagio, there are lesser known works such as Amy Beach's rarely heard quartet from 1921. It is based on 3 Inuit folk songs and is a fusion of art and folk music. Doreen Carwithen’s String Quartet No. 1 from 1948 is an early work in neo-classical style. As a composer she has been rediscovered and celebrated in the last decade. The FSQ has a long standing collaboration with the composer Liz Dilnot-Johnson, and will play her 3rd string quartet which was written for them.
