Major social transformations are often easiest to recognize in hindsight. This lecture explores five significant social trends currently reshaping American life including changes in community, identity, social connection, and collective action – while examining why these shifts can be difficult to recognize while living through them. Drawing from sociology, history, and contemporary research, the presentation argues that many of these seemingly unrelated trends may be connected through a broader cultural shift. The lecture will invite audiences to consider how this transformation is influencing everyday life, institutions, and the future of American society.
The First Tuesday Lecture Series will be held in the Stenstrom Student Center Atrium on Main Campus, streamed online, and made available later as a recording on our YouTube Channel.
