First-Time Homebuyer's Class 2026 (IN PERSON)

*Please note that the class has a $50 fee, but thanks to grant funding, it is currently being offered at no cost until the grant funds are fully utilized.*
HUD-certified course recommended for all clients interested in becoming homeowners. Upon completion of the class, participants receive a Certificate of Completion valid for 12 months, a requirement for certain down payment assistance programs and mortgage lenders.
Clients attending the class will learn about various home buying topics, including:
- Are you ready to buy a house?
- Managing Your Money
- Understanding Credit
- Obtaining a Mortgage Loan
- Shopping for a Home
- Protecting Your Investment
- Downpayment Assistance Programs
The class instructor will assist clients in navigating the technical aspects of the home buying process, such as preparing to qualify for a mortgage loan, finding suitable financing, assembling their home buying team, reviewing essential closing documents, and, if applicable, applying for down payment assistance programs.
Included in the cost of the class is the opportunity for clients to receive an individual homebuyer counseling appointment. These 1.5-hour counseling sessions are conducted privately with a HUD certified Housing Counselor, assisting clients in their personal journey towards homeownership. Appointments are available Mondays through Fridays via phone, Zoom, or in-person.
CLASS SCHEDULE
The full-day class runs from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm with a 45-minute lunch break at noon.
HOMEBUYER EDUCATION BOOK
Avenue's Homebuyer Education Book is provided on the day of the class.
CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION
Issued at the end of the class.
