The First Thursday of each month enjoy FREE art exhibits in the New Bohemia Neighborhood. In August, walk through The Cherry Building, CSPS Hall and Tree of Liminality to view new artwork exhibits while enjoying the historic neighborhood of New Bohemia.

First Thursday in The Cherry Building 5 to 7pm -
Featured in the Schwartzkopf Gallery on the First Floor:
“Seasonal Patterns” watercolor artwork by Barb Thompson
This collection showcases the comforting predictability of classic patterns—stripes, polka dots, paisley—and infuses them with the untamed energy of Midwestern vegetation. It is a visual celebration of plants pushing through boundaries, demonstrating that nature always finds a way.

Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio
Join the Iowa Ceramic Center and Glass Studio for a special First Thursday exhibition celebrating the beginning of a new residency year at the Iowa Ceramics Center & Glass Studio. Throughout their first week at ICCGS, each resident artist has created new work that offers a glimpse into their unique artistic voice. Spend the evening browsing the exhibition, meeting the artists behind the work, and hearing about their background, experiences and creative practice. Hear brief artist remarks beginning at 5:30 PM, and enjoy light refreshments while exploring the exhibition. New Resident Artists Include: Riley Baldus, Lillian Davis, Claire Dolan, June Jacquot, Monica Long, Matthew Rowe
Rootspace Wellness • Hip-Hop Moves & Grooves is a beginner-friendly adult dance class for anyone looking for a fun outlet to move, sweat, and laugh. This class is all about rhythm, confidence, and letting your body find the beat. We’ll break down approachable hip-hop-inspired movement, groove basics, simple combinations, and the kind of steps you can actually have fun with. You do not need to be a dancer. CSPS Hall • Exhibit Opening and Film Screening
Tharren Keith is an artist, graphic designer, photographer, painter, and potter whose work is inspired by the beauty found in both nature and humanity. Today, his artistic practice includes painting, pottery, photography, and mixed-media works that capture meaningful experiences.
This collection of work was created through portraits of more than 50 individuals and a film behind the portraits, representing a wide range of races, religious beliefs, political perspectives, and life experiences. Through this series, Tharren hopes to encourage viewers to look beyond differences and see the shared humanity that connects us all, reminding us that unity begins with recognizing the value and dignity in every person. Join us for the opening reception and film screening of Faces of Unity by artist, Tharren Keith, on Thursday, August 6, 2026 @ 6:00 PM in the CSPS Main Gallery. Admission is FREE! A screening of this film will also happen on on Thu Aug 20 @ 5:30PM and Thu Aug 27 @ 6:00PM.
Tree of Liminality • Late Stage Postalism Gallery Opening
Join us for the opening reception for our next Staircase Gallery exhibition. *Late Stage Postalism* celebrates what may very well be the last days of mail art (though we hope it will continue to exist despite the world seeming bent on its own destruction).
