Join us as we work together to help the houseless in our community in a direct way.
1st Sunday Workshops for October 5th:
“Cultivating Compassion”
In line with October’s Soul Matters theme of Cultivating Compassion as well as with this year’s Social Justice focus, three of our workshops are designed to support our unhoused neighbors. And the 4th will be an introduction to our new virtual hymnal. Be sure to stay and join us after service on October 5th!
Faith in Action: Supporting our Unhoused Neighbors: a duet of workshops!
We will host two workshops benefiting the unhoused folks that we serve at the Binghamton bus station on Tuesday nights. Both workshops will be held in the Social Hall, so participate in both if you like – all ages are encouraged to lend a hand!
(a) “Assembling Blessing Bags” with Pat Chirumbolo and Karen Manzer. We will put together gift bags full of useful items as well as some treats. Please join us, and if you’d like to contribute to the supply, we would welcome your donations of individually wrapped snacks, soft candy, small packs of tissues, chapstick, water bottles, protein shakes, hand warmers, socks, small flashlights, and more (there is a box in the Fireside Lobby). (b) “Making Lunches” with Julie Boyd. We will make sandwiches and fill lunch bags to accompany the giving bags. Family Ministry will supply the food items.
Housing Action Brainstorm” with Emily Hotchkiss-Plowe in the Rainbow Room. We will review the actions being taken at UUCB and by other local groups to address the housing crisis and brainstorm additional actions that UUCB members and friends can undertake to keep up the momentum.
“Sing Out Love” with Vicky Gordon, Douglas Taylor, and Jeff Donahue in the Sanctuary. Join us to sing some new hymns, learn about the new virtual hymnal Sing Out Love, and see a little behind the scenes of how it all works. Bring your questions and feedback as well as your singing voices for this workshop.
