Peer Support is a standard of care regarding first responders supporting each other when dealing with life and occupational stressors.
About this Event

Hosted by Wilson County ESD 4 EMS, personnel who complete the First Responder Peer Support course are trained to offer support during personal and professional challenges. This includes training in how to deal with an individual who is suffering from an addiction, an individual who is grieving the loss of a loved one, an individual who is depressed, or suffering from anxiety, an individual dealing with workplace conflict, as well as many other life challenges not unique to the profession and not necessarily prompted by a singular critical incident.

This 3-day course provides didactic and experiential learning based on adult learning theory. This is a practical application course, based on stress management and communication theory.

This course includes training the Fundamental Principles of Peer Support, Understanding Stress and Communication, Individual and Department Considerations, Prevention and Outreach, and Referral Resources. Key to this course is the time spent in scenario-based practice.

Lunch will be provided.
