Charles Goodnight liked to point out that he was born in 1836, the year the Republic of Texas was founded, and moved there in 1845, the year Texas joined the United States. A legendary rancher and trailblazer, inventor of the chuck wagon, and a millionaire three times, Goodnight became known as the “father of the Texas Panhandle.”
He served as a frontier scout and Texas Ranger, then entered the cattle business. He and his partner Oliver Loving established the Goodnight-Loving cattle trail out of Texas. Their friendship and adventures formed the basis of Larry McMurtry’s epic novel “Lonesome Dove.”
Now actor and Living Historian Gavin Kelly brings this colorful and authentic Western hero to life in an intimate presentation of a man aware that he is out-living the times that made him legendary.
