A once in a lifetime empowering menstrual education and celebration for girls aged 10 to 12.
The way a girl is introduced to menstruation has a lasting influence on how she feels about her body. A First Moon Circle is a safe, age-appropriate celebration designed to help girls approach their first period with confidence, pride, and accurate information.
Whether your child has started their period or not, this circle offers a nurturing environment to ask questions and feel supported as their body changes.
The First Moon Circle is divided into two parts:
PART 1: Period Education & Play
We start with an experience just for the girls to come together, have fun, be silly, make new friends, and learn accurate information about what’s happening to their physical body, as well as their emotional and mental selves as they approach and encounter menarche (the first period).
Here children learn about:
What periods and puberty are, what happens during this stage of development and what they can expect to notice, sense and feel within their body and emotions
An introduction to the female body, hormones, and the reproductive system.
Body and earth friendly period product options and a chance to explore and play with different options
And they can ask me any and all awkward, embarrassing, curious questions they’ve not felt able to ask yet.
PART 2: Cycle Self Care & Celebrating with a loved one
Caregiver, mother, grandmother, or significant other is invited to join the group for the final hour.
During this shared time:
The girls have the opportunity to share what they’ve learned
Caregivers offer encouragement, reassurance, and positive messages
Periods and puberty are modelled as normal, healthy topics of conversation
This part of the gathering aims to:
Support open communication between children and their caregivers
Help adults feel confident talking about periods and body changes
Reinforce positive, supportive messages about menstruation
Celebrate this important stage of growing up in a loving, affirming way
Many caregivers find this shared experience meaningful as well, offering new language, perspective, and understanding to take home.
