First Fridays Residency - Lloyd Jones with John Bunzo

Portland, Oregon roots artist Lloyd Jones has recorded six critically acclaimed albums, toured internationally, and racked up dozens of major awards and accolades. He’s a relentless road dog, hitting festival stages, Delbert’s annual Sandy Beaches Cruises (he’s been a regular on six winter cruises), and clubs all across the land to enthusiastic crowds who can’t get enough of his swampy blues, his backporch picking, his serious-as-anthrax funk, soul, roadhouse two-beats, and old-school rhythm and blues (back before the R&B tag was somehow appropriated for other musical purposes, apparently when we weren’t looking). Yet he may be the most invisible, best-kept roots/blues/Americana secret on the contemporary scene.

JOHN BUNZO

It is John Bunzow's mix of eclectic musical influences -melding blues, country, rock and even jazz - that have helped establish him as an original artist of heartfelt depth, substance and style.

He's as likely to draw on his love of the music of country legend Merle Haggard or scuffling barroom bard Tom Waits, as he is the smooth R&B and soul of Marvin Gaye, the iconic folk wisdom of Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Ry Cooder or the blues of Albert King.

After beginning his musical career in the Northwest scene playing in popular all-original bands for over two decades including the Cowboy Angels and X-Angels, John set his sights on songwriter heaven - Nashville - scoring a songwriting contract with EMI Nashville/Famous Music and a recording contract with Liberty/Capitol Records.

He quickly found his services in big demand with Nashville recording artists and had the opportunity to write for and perform with some of country and rock music's biggest names.

Bunzow commutes regularly to Nashville from his home base in Portland, Oregon, as he continues to hone his sizable talents. He's found old fans and new ones as he tirelessly tours both Nashville and Pacific Northwest nightclubs, concert halls, festival stages, casinos, wineries and resorts playing original cuts from his most recent CD, Counterfeit Salvation

(recorded in Nashville), plus gems from Stories of the Years (recorded in Venice, Calif.) and the Nashville-recorded Darkness and Light, Alive at O'Connor's, and Off the Shelf.

His is deep roots music that touches the heart of anybody who's ever raised a little hell on a Saturday night, or felt the pangs of a love gone bad.
