Free!The Dupont Underground will be open to visit this versatile and ever-changing space where the public can create, interact with, and deepen its cultural knowledge. In addition to its own curated programming, Dupont Underground provides event and exhibition space for partnering organizations, collaborating with galleries, art spaces, and artists. It provides a local nexus to develop collaborations with innovative cultural institutions around the world. The Dupont Underground entrance is on the north side of the Circle – behind Starbucks. The Heurich House Museum is celebrating the opening of Good Fortunes on Friday, May 3rd during Dupont First Friday! This May, during AAPI Heritage month, artist Xena Ni will transform the Heurich House Museum into a portal to the future with her interactive art installation, “Good Fortunes.” Travel to the future with visionary Asian Americans and return with reasons for hope in the present. The museum will be open to explore the new exhibit in the house and shop the AAPI Mini Markt and taste beer from Asian-Owned local brewery, Lost Generation. RSVP is requested for the open house. Good Fortunes is the second installment of the We Should Talk series, a participatory installation that invites you to join visionary Asian American womxn in imagining and shaping the future, created by Philippa Pham Hughes, Adele Yiseol Kenworthy, and Xena Ni. Q Street Fine Art will be closed for vacation the month of May and will resume operation starting June 1st in time for the June First Friday.
Studio Gallery presents five brand new exhibits this May by local artists. “In Full Bloom” is a solo exhibit on the upper level of the gallery featuring artist Andrea Rowe Kraus. “In Full Bloom” is curated by Adah Rose Bitterbaum and focuses on our profound relationship with nature through bright, bold paintings. “Echoes of Heroics” by Lynda Andrews-Barry (curated by Gaby Mizes) and “Face to Face” by Miriam Keeler (curated by Judy Southerland) are located on the lower level of the gallery. “Echoes of Heroics” delves into the realms of both past and future, weaving together heritage and imagination through collaged photo paintings, while “Face to Face” offers ten paintings of heads in conversation via facial expressions, accessories, and color. In the Garden Gallery, “Talia and the Spring” by Carol Rubin (paintings celebrating nature's vast energy and fleeting turns) and “Near and Faraway (Places)” by Eleanor Kotlarik Wang (paintings capturing the emotions and sense of wonder originally experienced encountering faraway and local locations) are featured. These exhibits are curated by Deborah Addison Coburn and Miriam Keeler. Studio Gallery is an art cooperative located at 2108 R Street NW.

The Woman’s National Democratic Club is proud to exhibit Cymn Wong’s “Poesy Spectrum Flow.” The exhibition shows Wong’s unique aesthetic of painting: a fusion of fluidity and freedom of abstract expressionism with the contemplative practice of Zen calligraphy, which integrates free energetic and still-dynamic brush strokes. Wong, a mixed-media artist and bilingual poet, grew up in Hong Kong and was named Chosen Artists for Winning Entry at the Contemporary Hong Kong Art Biennial Exhibitions in 1994, 1996, and 1998. She was also awarded the Grand Prize at the Ideco International Painting Award in Spain in 1997. Her artwork and English poetry anthologies “Fire on the Zen” (2021) and “Poesy Spectrum Flow” (2024) were recently archived by the Library of Congress under The Poet and the Poem.
