About this Event

The First Coast Wind Symphony's Chamber Music Benefit Concert features small ensembles made up of FCWS members performing a variety of chamber works. The Benefit raises funds to support the annual High School Concerto Competition.

The First Coast Wind Symphony chamber music concert on March 8 will include music by the group’s flute, clarinet and trombone groups, and the brass quintet. The featured chamber work is Kurt Weill’s “Little Threepenny Music,” a suite for wind ensemble drawn from his 1928 play with music titled The Threepenny Opera, a German theater work with a libretto by Bertolt Brecht. Weill’s music, based on 1920’s jazz and dance music, includes the hit song “Mack The Knife.”

The 15th annual High School Concerto Competition is designed to promote music education in Florida by providing talented students an opportunity to perform a solo work with wind symphony. The winner will be chosen through a competitive audition process, and will perform with the First Coast Wind Symphony in concert on April 26, 2026 at Jacksonville University. The first and second place winners receive a cash prize. Visit our website for more information about the Concert Competition: https://fcwinds.org/events/concerto-competition

The First Coast Wind Symphony is led by Music Director Artie Clifton and Conductor Paul Weikle. Currently in its 35th season, the group provides a cultural service by offering free concerts of quality wind music throughout the greater Jacksonville area.

In 2023, the First Coast Wind Symphony received two national music awards: the John Philip Sousa Foundation Sudler Silver Scroll Award for the most outstanding community band in the U.S., and the American Prize in Performance, Celebrating American Excellence in the Arts. The ensemble is proud to represent Jacksonville as one of the finest community bands in the U.S.
