Course Description: Want to understand the Foreign Investment and Real Property Tax Act of 1980 also known as “FIRPTA.” The course begins with a brief discussion of foreign investment in the United States. We then discuss the withholding tax requirement of the Act to certain real estate transactions. We analyze who is, and is not, considered “foreign” under the Act and how the tax is calculated for a foreign individual. We discuss the various exceptions to the FIRPTA tax-withholding requirement along with a discussion of certain defined IRS terms. We review the TREC standard contract provision as it relates to FIRPTA. The course ends with a discussion of the role of the title company with regards to collection and withholding of the tax and suggestions for best practices.

Cost: $10.00 per realtor for CE credit or free without credit. Online registration required. We do not accept cash or check.

What's the refund policy?

An attendee may cancel their registration up to 2 business days (48 hours) before the scheduled class and will be refunded in full. No shows will not be refunded. Funds are not transferable. No vouchers or exchanges are permitted.

What's the Provider's Cancellation policy?

The provider will notify each registered attendee of said cancellation. Acceptable forms of notification include: email, text, or call. Any classes for 3 or fewer registered Realtors maybe subject to cancelation. In situations of inclement weather the provider will notify each registered attendee of cancelation. If the provider cancels a course all funds will be refunded within 30 days of the date of cancellation.
