The fundamentals of kiln conversion and soda firing

This two-day, hands-on workshop offers a rare opportunity to learn the fundamentals of kiln conversion and soda firing with Iowa-based ceramic artist Adam Nielsen. Participants will assist in converting an old electric kiln into a functioning gas-fired soda kiln, and then fire the kiln together as a group on the second day. The converted kiln will remain in use at the Sedona Arts Center for future soda firings.
Handouts will be provided to guide participants in converting their own kilns at home—making this workshop a great opportunity for anyone interested in expanding their firing possibilities.
