Jon Love, HBA ’76, LL.D ’16 C.M.
Jon Love is the Executive Chair and Founder of KingSett Capital, Canada’s leading private equity real estate investment business, co-investing with institutional and ultra-high net worth clients seeking to provide sustainable premium risk weighted returns through active management in its various fund strategies.
After graduating with an HBA from Ivey Business School in 1976, Jon joined Scotia McLeod in Edmonton as a retail stockbroker, then joined Oxford Properties in 1980. Jon began as a Leasing Coordinator, followed by stints as a Property Manager, Development Manager, regional leadership before becoming President in 1987 and CEO in 1992. In 1995, Jon took Oxford public with a $50 million market cap. In the ensuing 6 years, with financial partners, he led $7 billion of acquisitions – and in 2001, Oxford was privatized by OMERS in a $4 billion transaction.
In 2002, Jon founded KingSett Capital, starting with institutional Growth LP’s. Its latest fund, Growth LP8 closed in August of 2022 with $2 billion of capital commitments. KingSett added its Income Fund (2008), Urban Infill Fund (2014), High Yield Fund (2014), Senior Mortgage Fund (2018), Affordable Housing Fund (2020), and Residential Development Fund (2021) to offer investors a full range of real estate investment strategies.
KingSett also has some standalone strategies such as Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York acquired in 2015 and now substantially renovated, including Zero Carbon certification. With a staff of 170 professionals in three offices, today KingSett has AUM of $18 billion.
Jon graduated with an Honours degree in Business Administration from Western University’s Ivey Business School, where he is an Emeritus Advisory Board member. In 2016 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Western University. Jon is a member of the Business Council of Canada, the Chief Executives Organization, and YPO. In 2023, Jon received the Ivey Business Leader of the Year Award and the NAIOP Rex Icon Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2024 he received the Fraser Institute’s Founders Award. In 2018 Jon was awarded the Order of Canada.
