Friday, Sept. 19th Chief John Alston Jr. - New Haven FD "What on your mind" The Incident Commander Mindset; Chief Alston is Executive Coach and Trainer at the Fire Officer Trust, author of "Leading Fearlessly" {empowering fire officers to make impactful decisions in adverse situations} has more than four decades of experience in emergency management. Commissioner Bernard J. Calvi - Springfield, Mass. FD: "PRIDE in Leadership, what makes a good fire officer in the station and on the fireground." Commissioner Calvi has 34 years in Emergency Services. He has extensive experience in Fire Service Leadership, specializing in Incident Command, with an emphasis on fireground safety. Commissioner Calvi commands the Springfield Fire Dept.; protecting the 4th largest city in New England. Fire Instructor Eric Fischl - Thompsonville FD; "Out of Chaos comes control" The session will cover common fireground errors, both engine and truck company operations will be examined for a safer response; Eric has been active in the fire service since 2010 serving with career, combination and volunteer fire departments. Eric currently is an adjunct instructor at the Connecticut Fire Academy; MissionCIT, Task Force 1; and lead fire instructor for the Town of Windsor and Berlin Public Schools high school firefighter programs as well as Secretary for the Connecticut Fire Dept. Instructors Assoc. CFDIASaturday, Sept. 20th Deputy Chief James York II - Hartford FD; "Safety, Risk and the Incident Commander" This presentation will explore the connection between "safety" and "uncertainty." Is safety a perception on the fireground instead of a reality? Do The concept of risk is typically presented as how to "manage risk," but what we need to understand is our "risk tolerance." These questions and concepts will be explored, including the Incident Commander's perspective. A discussion of LODD reports will be explored, including from the Incident Commander's perspective. Chief York is a 26 year fire service veteran as well as fire marshal in his hometown. Chief York holds a Master's Degree from the University of New Haven and has been actively involved with the Fire Safety Research Institute {FSRI} including the Fire Dynamics Instructor Development Program. Capt. Peter Morotto - Bridgeport FD; "Understanding the Tenable Space" - {a foundation for focused aggression} Pete Morotto currently serves as the Training Captain for the City of Bridgeport Fire Dept. and leads the Recruit Program as Drillmaster. With more than 30 years of line experience in some of the busiest fire companies, Pete is also Co-founder of a successful private Fire Training/EMS/Strategic Planning Company {MissionCIT}.
