Firecracker Department welcomes you to the hottest event of the year: our annual TIFF Brunch!
Hosted by Firecracker Department founder Naomi Snieckus (Second City, Mr. D, Disney ZOMBIES, The Social, Pretty Hard Cases) and the Firecracker team, this is one big, joyful day of conversation, creative action, celebration and connection.
Firecracker Department began as a podcast and swiftly became a community of like-minded women and non-binary artists coming together to support one another, make things happen and take creative action.
Now we’re taking over Snakes & Lattes College for our biggest party of the year.
Come talk film, television, writing, directing, producing, performing and whatever else you’re dreaming up. Meet your fellow Firecrackers, reconnect with old friends and answer our favourite question:
What are you working on—and what can we all do to help?
Wear Red!
The dress code is simple: wear something Firecrackery-red that makes you happy.
A red dress. Red socks. Red lipstick. A truly unreasonable red hat. You decide.
Things to Do at the Party
Come ready to mingle, browse, create, celebrate and get a fabulous photo taken.
You’ll find:
- The Firecracker Boutique, filled with gorgeous clothes ready for a new home
- Our Creative Action Table
- Red-carpet photos with the wonderful Racheal McCaig
- The chance to support The Shoebox Project
- A 50/50 draw
- Our annual awards presentation
- More Firecrackery fun still to come
Bring a Bag. Bring Some Cash. Bring Your Firecracker Energy!
Please bring a cloth or reusable bag so you can take home any treasures you find at the Firecracker Boutique—and carry your Firecracker Department thank-you gift.
We’re trying to cut back on unnecessary packaging and event waste, so bringing your own bag helps us keep things a little greener.
Please also bring cash for the 50/50 draw and any other cash-based fun that may pop up during the party.
Support The Shoebox Project
We’ll be collecting donations in support of The Shoebox Project, which provides thoughtful gifts and essential items to women experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
More information about what to bring and how to donate will be shared before the event.
Schedule
10:00 a.m. — Doors Open!
Grab a beverage and a nibble of your choice, browse the Firecracker Boutique, visit the Creative Action Table, strike a pose on the red carpet with Racheal McCaig and start mingling with your fellow Firecrackers.
11:00 a.m. — Official Welcome
A little housekeeping and a big official welcome from Naomi Snieckus.
12:00 p.m. — Awards Presentation
Gather round for the presentation of the Blaze Award and Trailblazer Award, celebrating some truly exceptional Firecrackers.
2:00 p.m. — Brunch Wraps
The official party comes to an end, and in-person attendees will receive a small Firecracker Department thank-you gift.
This is where that reusable bag comes in handy.

Attendees are expected to behave respectfully towards all Firecracker Department members and other attendees. Racism, sexism, and any and all other -isms will not be tolerated and we reserve the right to remove you from the event without warning, if necessary. There will be quiet areas and masks available for your comfort.
There will be video recordings and photographs taken during this event, for fun & promotion purposes. If you do not wish to be recorded in any way, please contact the event organiser.
If you have specific accessibility needs, please contact the event organiser.
We encourage all in-person attendees to have up-to-date vaccinations. Please do not attend in-person if you are showing symptoms of COVID or are generally unwell. Hand gel, disinfectant wipes, and handwashing facilities will be available at the venue.
