Claim Your Power, Set Your Soul Aflame - become a Creature of the Elements! Prepare yourself to step into a new role as dance goddess, fire dancer, fire spirit, fire god! Dancing with fire requires reverence and respect as well as preparation. This class is the creative movement space where we begin to invoke this connection, and develop the confidence and skill to dance with fire.This is a different way of moving, it asks us to be raw, authentic, and intentional. We connect within ourselves to the very fabric of which we are made. We surrender to and trust the Spirit inside us all, the truth within, to learn to speak at this elemental level. You’ll be guided with cues to explore themes, bring awareness to different parts of your body, and connect to parts of yourself that perhaps have remained hidden. Class will consist of exercises, combinations and improvisations.
Please note this class does NOT actually light anything on fire, though we will start to work with the fire props, including fans and palms. Once you show proficiency in movement, footwork, and can demostrate combos and flow on your own, talk to your instructor about joining Level 2.
We'll cultivate a sense of Roots (Earth element), grounding ourselves into a stable, strong place through footwork and balance, upon which to build and move. Next we Flow, invoking elements of both Water and Air - allowing and inviting energetic ripples to grow up from the Earth, build through our core, and out through our arms and hands where the props are manipulated. Our flowing breath ignites the flame... and the Flair of the Fire Element sparks!
All levels of dancers are welcome. Perfect for anyone who wants to connect to the wisdom in their body - and work in synergy with the elements. Newbies, get familiar with the props and learn fire dance techniques. Already familiar with fire dancing? This will give you the movement training to excel even more!
Class will be held inside, bring your props or borrow ours. Wear something easy to move in, be prepared to go down to the floor for stretching.
