Finland in a Geoeconomic World
About this Event
As geopolitical competition increasingly shapes trade, investment, technology and industrial policy, governments are rethinking the foundations of economic resilience and national competitiveness. In this lecture, Minister Puisto will explore Finland's place in an evolving geoeconomic landscape, reflecting on resource geopolitics, technology moats and the pursuit of strategic autonomy.
Drawing on Finland's experience as a highly innovative, export-oriented economy operating on Europe's strategic frontier, the discussion will examine how governments can balance economic openness with resilience in an era of heightened geopolitical and technological competition.
Minister Puisto oversees Finland's innovation, enterprise financing and export financing policies, as well as mineral policy, business internationalisation, foreign investment promotion, space policy and the development of business support systems. He also holds responsibility for security of supply and regional development matters, alongside oversight of key financial market portfolios. He is an alumnus of Downing College, University of Cambridge.
This lecture has been organised by the Downing Battcock Institute in partnership with the Cambridge Judge Business School and the Centre for Science and Policy (CSaP).
The lecture will be followed by an audience Q&A.
