About this Event

Finding Your Voice: Honing YOUR Handwriting Style

This course is designed to unchain you from copybook tracing, and the endless hours spent forcing your writing to look like someone else's.

I will be helping you uncover and cultivate what it means to write like YOU by harnessing the principles of penmanship. I will teach you how to THINK about the structural makeup of a-z so you understand the relationships letters share with one another.

You will unsee letters as letters but as groups of shapes you can adjust, refine, and exaggerate to express who you are on the page.

You will learn how to critically analyze elements from your current cursive/handwriting and grow your creative confidence to discern what to change and what to keep.

You will learn how to hone the building blocks of your letterforms to create harmony and consistency.

Our time together will alternate between lectures and live analysis of student work so you can experience in real time what's possible for the ink that flows from the pen you wield.

Length: 3hrs

Class limit: 25

Supplies: Ruler, lined writing paper, any monoline writing tool (pencil, fountain pen, gel pen...etc.)

Prerequiste: The love of watching ink flow from a pen, the patience to wait for strokes to form on paper. You do not need to ever have been praised for good penmanship to benefit from this workshop. While this course is focused on cursive letterforms, it is the principles of script that I am after and you will receive detailed instruction on the composition of each letter. Cursive experience is welcomed but not required.

Reviews from past and current students:

"Connie Chen is worth her weight in gold. I learned more from our first lesson than I have in a couple of months of self study. I have a lot of work to do but at least I'm being given the tools to do it!"

"I've just finished your Refining Engrosser's Script online course. Wonderful, I've never thought you could learn so much just with script analysis. I already had a basic knowledge of Engrosser's Script so this was perfect and just what I was looking for. Didn't found nothing like this on any instructional book and I also gone through all teaching materials available on the zanerian.com website."

“I’m 1/3 through the Engrosser’s Course and already see a marked improvement in my letters. Connie’s lessons are succinct, but thorough, clearly detailing critical elements of the primary letterforms that have helped me create more beautiful, balanced, and historically accurate letters. However, the portion of this course that has been invaluable is Connie’s direct feedback on each letter. Her trained eye picks up on small details that I may overlook, but those details have a profound effect on the overall balance and beauty of the letter. I recommend this course, even for non-beginners who desire to train their eye and bring their Engrosser’s to the next level.”
