About this Event

Aging is often accompanied by tough decisions about housing and care. These concerns are heightened for older members of the Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transgender and Queer + (2SLGBTQ+) community. Where is the best place to grow older? What supports might be needed? Are housing and care options inclusive, affordable and accessible? Join us for a thoughtful panel discussion spotlighting the unique concerns of 2SLGBTQ+ seniors when it comes to housing and long-term care.

This panel will feature:

Kate Murzin (she/her) is National Program Manager at Realize, a charitable organization committed to fostering optimal well-being for people living with HIV and other episodic disabilities. The research, education, policy, and practice change activities Kate engages in are focused on the health and well-being of aging and older adults living with or vulnerable to HIV.

Joseph Burley (he/him) is a public health professional with a background in 2SLGBTQI+ health research and policy. In his current role as a management consultant with the City of Toronto Seniors Services and Long-Term Care (SSLTC), Joseph leads a number of files focused on improving services for equity-deserving seniors across the care continuum, including development and implementation of the 2SLGBTQI+ Tool Kit Leading & Learning with Pride.

Dr. Celeste Pang (she/they) is an anthropologist and an incoming Assistant Professor in Women's and Gender Studies at Mount Royal University. Celeste's research, teaching, and community work focus on aging, disability, and care access and equity, with significant focus on 2SLGBTQIA+ issues. Celeste completed her PhD in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Toronto, where her research examined the social dynamics and norms shaping the lives of LGBTQ older adults residing in long-term care homes and in non-institutional settings.

John Vigna (he/him) is a Lived Experience Advisor on the Tool Kit Revitalization Working Group as well as a recently retired social worker. As a social worker, John worked in long-term care and in a community setting with older adults.
