Find Your Focus : a WIMFCO Skill Building Workshop

A crash-course in all things 1st and 2nd ACing and some camera operation. Introducing the basics, followed by group camera builds, practice with pulling focus, and shooting stances, before closing out with a group discussion.

Basics - What the basics needed to know when you're hired as an AC?

Camera Build - A demonstration and hands on practice to build on an Arri, Sony, Red and Canon.

Pulling Focus - Static, Flying

Shooting Positions - Tripod, Monopod, Easy Rig, Handheld

Discussion about the business of working In the camera department and a Q&A.

In Person Workshop Is Limited to 20 participants. There will be a live, virtual link to watch for those who won't be In person.

Helena Gruensteidl (they/them) is a Denver-based narrative, commercial, and documentary Cinematographer who was classically trained in celluloid 16mm and 35mm motion picture film production at the Film and Television Academy (FAMU) in Prague. Having spent several years honing their skills as a 1st AC and camera operator, they’re excited to teach the next generation of aspiring focus pullers about all things Camera Department.

Biz Young (she/ they) is an Emmy award-winning documentary filmmaker working on the film team at The North Face. Her work often explores environmental / social equity through intimate conversations and personal stories.
